Leaking fuel link to crash of Concorde

The flames which spewed from the Concorde involved in last week's Paris crash were caused by leaking fuel, French investigators said last night.

One of the pieces of the supersonic jet found on the runway appeared to be part of the fuel tank, they said. The jet crashed near Charles de Gaulle airport on Tuesday, killing all 109 people on board and five people on the ground.

The investigators' disclosure came hours after a refuelling problem prevented a British Airways Concorde taking off from Heathrow airport.
