Troublemakers 'will not succeed'
Mr Tung told lawmakers that those who tried to drive a wedge between him and the incoming chief secretary for administration would not succeed.
He said he hoped to name a successor to Anson Chan Fang On-sang next week. She announced her resignation last month saying some people had tried to stir up trouble between her and Mr Tung.
Financial Secretary Donald Tsang Yam-kuen has been tipped to take over her job. Banker and executive councillor Antony Leung Kam-chung has been tipped to replace Mr Tsang.
Mr Tung said he would guard against business affiliations when picking his top aides. This was an apparent move to calm fears of a conflict of interest if Mr Leung, who is chairman of Chase Manhattan Asia Pacific, becomes the new financial secretary.
Mr Tung denied a troubled working relationship with Mrs Chan, and said her successor would not face problems either.
