Police Commissioner Tsang Yam-pui on Wednesday said the police would handle the Falun Gong in exactly the same way as it dealt with any other organisation.
Whether Falun Gong was an ''evil cult'' or not, police will deal with it in a lawful way, Mr Tsang said on a TV interview.
He said police had never rejected applications for Falun Gong demonstrations, adding that police would handle requests in a fair way as long as they abided by the laws of Hong Kong.
The SAR would host two international conferences at the end of this year. Mr Tsang said the police will consider the nature of the conferences and the importance of the participants when considering security measures to be implemented.
Mr Tsang also said SAR police could control protest situations even if confronting professional demonstrators.
