Don't encourage protests, Anson tells lawmakers
Chief Secretary for Administration Anson Chan Fang On-sang last night urged lawmakers not to encourage students to carry out acts of civil disobedience against the Public Order Ordinance.
Mrs Chan said it was more appropriate for legislators to discuss the issue through "formal channels" rather than on the streets.
She was speaking after a dinner reception with pro-democracy lawmakers, some of whom took part in Sunday's protest rally against the ordinance.
She told the legislators that they should not encourage students to break the law. But Cyd Ho Sau-lan of The Frontier said: "Students stood up because of their dissatisfaction with government policy. They don't need anyone's encouragement."
